What is a Rock Chip repair?
A rock hits a windshield and leaves an impact mark called a “Rock Chip.” The mark is actually a small break in the glass and if not repaired the windshield will crack. The procedure takes only 15 minutes. The excess debris is removed from the impact, resin is carefully injected to fill the chip and then it is cured under ultraviolet light. The repair restores the integrity of the glass and prevents the rock chip from cracking the windshield.
Will I still see the Rock Chip after the repair?
Every Rock Chip is like a snow flake and the repairs will turn out looking differently. It’s important to remember that Rock Chip repair is a structural repair rather than a cosmetic repair. The Rock Chip that looks like a bulls-eye will visibly look the best after a repair. The Rock Chip with spider fractures will likely remain visible after the repair.
Why Should I get a Rock Chip Repair?
A Rock Chip will save time, money, and your windshield (not to mention the environment)! Often insurance companies will cover the cost of the Rock Chip Repair.
When do I NOT get a Rock Chip repaired?
- If a Rock Chip is in your line of vision you should get your windshield replaced not repaired.
- If you have already had the Rock Chip repaired you cannot repair it again (you can only fill it once).
