What is a Rock Chip repair?
A rock hits a windshield and leaves an impact mark called a “Rock Chip.” The mark is a small break in the glass, and if not repaired the windshield will crack. The repair process takes approximately 15 minutes. Excess air and debris is removed from the impact, resin is injected to fill the chip and then cured under ultraviolet light. The repair restores the integrity of the glass and prevents the rock chip from cracking the windshield.
Will I still see the Rock Chip after the repair?
Every Rock Chip is unique, as is the final appearance of each repair. It’s important to remember that Rock Chip Repair improves the structure of the glass, not necessarily how it looks. Rock Chips that look like a bulls-eye have the best appearance after a repair. Chips containing spider cracks will likely remain visible once repaired.
Why Should I get a Rock Chip Repair?
Rock Chip Repair saves time, money, and the factory seal of your windshield (not to mention the environment)! Most insurance companies will cover the cost of the Rock Chip Repair.
When do I NOT get a Rock Chip repaired?
- If a Rock Chip is in the driver's line-of-vision, the windshield should be replaced, not repaired.
- If the Rock Chip has been filled before, it cannot be repaired again.
